Options For Choosing The Right Storage Racks For Your Industrial Warehouse

Blog

When you are designing and putting together a new industrial warehouse for your business, you will have a wide variety of choices and decisions to make in the process. While every decision may seem important, some have more of an impact than others. The choices you make in your storage racks for your industrial warehouse can have a major impact on your overall warehouse design as well as the way that your warehouse operates and functions on a day-to-day basis. Get to know more about some of the industrial storage rack options for your new industrial warehouse and make the decision that is most effective and appropriate for your warehouse.

Pallet Flow Racks

Pallet flow racks, sometimes also referred to as simply pallet racks, are designed to accommodate large wooden pallets full of products, equipment, and other items that you need to store and then retrieve in your industrial warehouse. The idea of a pallet flow rack is to ensure that the pallets you need to access are easy to retrieve and when one is emptied and/or removed, there will immediately be another to take its place.

These storage racks can use gravity to achieve this goal of moving pallets forward or can be motorized or powered to provide additional options for pallet retrieval. If you have many pallets or products to store in your industrial warehouse, pallet racks can also help because they save space and can hold a large amount of products in a small space (high density storage). However, if you plan to have a last in, first out (LIFO) approach to your warehouse product retrieval, these racks would not work for you, but a first in, first out (FIFO) model lends itself well to this storage system.

Drive-In Storage Racks

Drive-in storage or pallet racks are another option that you can consider for your industrial warehouse. These racks are designed to allow you or your employees to drive a forklift into the racking system. This will let you put several layers of pallets into your storage rack.

The drive-in storage rack model can help to maximize the space in your industrial warehouse. Unlike the pallet flow racks, drive-in storage racks lend themselves best to a LIFO approach to your warehouse as it can be difficult to retrieve items from the pallets in the back of the racks as you would have to move all of the front pallets first.

Now that you know a few of your storage rack options for your industrial warehouse, you can be sure that you make the best possible choice for you and your new warehouse.
